I’ve had a couple of questions about when I’ll be releasing the last of my four-part video series on 3D in Photoshop for lynda.com, Photoshop Extended One-on-One: 3D Type Effects. After all, I started the series nearly five months ago, so you’d think I’d be done by now. But it’s been a busy Summer, and with one thing or another (including four Up and Running courses), I got distracted. But I’m finally getting back to it, and having an absolute blast I must say. For example, here’s an image from Chapter 2 of the course, “Hand-Drawn Type.” Don’t you just want to reach out and photocopy it?

And that’s not the best of it.

Unlike real hand-drawn 3D type, you can altogether transform the digital stuff by dragging stuff around and changing a few settings. For example, after 5 or 6 minutes of editing the 3D text layer inside a smart object, I get the following result. The effect relies on three independent layers, and yet they all update in unison as if in response to a higher power, which will be you once you learn how the technique works.

As I write this, I’m about halfway done recording the title. Then it goes into editing, which has been amazingly speedy these days. So I’m hoping the course will be live in September. This is going to sound like a shameless nudge (and it is), but my advice is that you join lynda.com immediately and get to work learning 3D in Photoshop. That way, you’ll know what I’m talking about once you lay your hands on these eye-popping, mind-expanding, salary-sizzling 3D type effects.
