Hey, gang. This is Deke McClelland, writing his own blog post for a change. Seems like the kind of thing I should do every once in a while. Now that I’ve wrastled back temporary control over my own website, I have a few things to report before I get to this week’s free Deke’s Techniques episode. (Note: Because I’m actually Deke, I can do what I want before I do what I’m supposed to do.)

First, Deke’s Techniques, the very series you’re about to enjoy, has now clocked in more than 2 million paid views. Which, given the way things work, translates to something like ten times that many free views. Modest by YouTube standards, sure, but it’s a record for a weekly series hosted by a subscription-based training site. That’s a thing! My heartfelt thanks to each and every single viewer.

And fourth, just for fun as fourth-level non-sequiturs should be, here’s a picture of my son Max riding Segway’s motorized unicycle, the Ninebot One S1.

See that line of trees atop the green hills above Max’s head? It’s 400 feet up and a mile away. After one day of practice, Max rode the S1 all the way up there. (Don’t worry; we wore a helmet.) As for his getup, the boy scored a Summer job in a Walmart electronics dept. The Geek is strong with this one.
